Airedale Terrier

Airedale Terrier

We are alone, absolutely alone on this chance planet: and, amid all the forms of life that surround us, not one, excepting the dog, has made an alliance with us. Maurice Maeterlinck

Airedale Terrier is often called “King of Terriers” because of its size. The breed originates from England. Airedales are highly intelligent, fearless and energetic. According to many stories, Airedales were wildly used as messengers and Red Cross aids in World War II. Presidents Theodore Roosevelt, Calvin Coolidge, and Warren Harding owned Airedales and this fact with breeds  natural bravery and intelligence, promoted these beautiful dogs. John Wayne always took his Airedale Terriers wherever he went. They were nicknamed “Big Duke” and “Little Duke”. Airedales often perform in circuses, they guard and hunt.

Airedales have hard, dense and wiry coat. It has to be cut from time to time as the dogs do not shed.

Bear in mind that the dogs of the breed are very independent and even stubborn, that’s why Airedale puppies need firm, patient and consistent training. But do not bore the dog, as Airedales are “thinkers”.

The dog is portrayed on this poster with eyes full of terrier expression, curiosity, keenness and intelligence. The nature of the breed was perfectly caught by an unknown author.

Akita

Akita

If you are a dog and your owner suggests that you wear a sweater, suggest that he wear a tail. Fran Lebowitz

The vintage art advertising Akita poster is one of artworks by Ken Bailey. He chose the breed for tea advertising deliberately as the breed originates from Japan, which is famous by its tea ceremony. Akita is actually a national treasure proclaimed by Japanese government symbolizing health and wealth. The breed’s name came from one of the regions of the island of Honshū in the Akita prefecture.

Unfortunately, Akitas became almost extinct during World War II, as their fur was widely used for warm army uniforms. Today the breed is presented in two separate types: the Akita Inu and the American Akita. The difference is in coat colours:  American Akita can be of any color, whereas Japanese Akitas are only red, fawn, sesame, white, or brindle.

The dogs are very territorial and protective. The breed is very close to the wolf. Akita puppies need to be trained from the early puppyhood. With the proper training, the dog is very good with children, playful, intelligent and energetic.

Ken Bailey used his distinctive style to portrait Akita with great sense of humor and fantasy.

Basset Hound

Whoever loveth me, loveth my hound. Thomas More

This fine art print is one of artworks of Lanny Barnard. Her excellent sense of color and great impressionistic strokes are evident on this Basset Hound poster.

Basset Hound is a real rabbit hunter. The breed is characterized by its short stocky body, short legs, hooded paws and big droopy ears. All of it helps to Basset Hound particular keen nose to gather scent and keep a track. By the way, the breed has the longest ears in the world.

Basset Hound is distinguished by dense bones, so the dog drowns in water like a stone. That’s why Basset Hound puppies should to be carried in arms to avoid back problems. It’s not difficult to find a Basset Hound for sale, because of the breed’s popularity all over the world. But you have to bear in mind that the breed is known as a vocal one. Basset like many other hunting dogs like to howl and bark. He also needs space and a leash when out on walks. In other respects it’s a good family dog.

Bassets have been featured in many movies and cartoons. The most famous one is Druppy – the detective. George Washington received as a gift his Basset Hounds from Marquis de Lafayette.

Lanny Barnard portrayed in a masterly fashion the natural mood and tone of the Basset Hound.

Bloodhound

Bloodhound

The eye of the yeoman and peasant sought in vain the tall form of old Sir Henry Lee of Ditchley, as, wrapped in his laced cloak, and with beard and whiskers duly composed, he moved slowly through the aisles, followed be the faithful mastiff, or bloodhound, which in old time had saved his master by his fidelity, and which regularly followed him to church. Bevis indeed, fell under the proverb which avers, ‘He is a good dog, which goes to church’; for, bating an occasional temptation to warble along with the accord, he behaved himself as decorously as any of the congregation, and returned much edified, perhaps, as most of them. Sir Walter Scott

The Bloodhound poster is one of artworks by Thomas Ivester Llyod. Images of different hunting scenes are his favorite subject.

Bloodhound is one of oldest hound breeds. The dogs were trained to hunt together following the scent. Bloodhound has the most powerful sense of smell. Other parts of its body help the keen nose – like long pendent ears which gather scents. The concentration is superb as bloodhound on trace gets blind because the skin around the eyes falls forward. The breed is notable for the great ability to follow scents which are up to 70 hours old. Thus bloodhounds are widely used in police and law enforcement.

It is generally accepted that the breed is a direct descendant of the Chien St. Hubert. Its origin is likely in Belgium. The name of the breed means “hound of pure blood” – a hound of noble lineage (not “blood seeking hound”).

Gentle and plush on the outside, Bloodhound has a strong character.  It’s a proud and independent dog. Getting a puppy, pay attention that Bloodhound puppies are not to be trained, but educated.

The dogs of the breed often suffer a bloat, the leading cause of death of bloodhounds. Choosing Bloodhounds remember that only experienced breeder could give you correct recommendations on dog feeding.

McGruff the crime dog is the most famous Bloodhound hero. This cartoon was created for the National Crime Prevention Council to build crime awareness among children.

Indeed, our lives have been enriched beyond measure becasuse of the love of a dog. We have been adopted by that most irrepressible of clowns, that most intuitive of comforters, that most selfless of companions-the Boxer.  Author unknown.

Emily Burrowes is known for her minimalist approach and ability to see the object on which she is working from first hand. The origin of the Boxer poster is painted with acrylics on canvas.

The Boxer breed was developed in Germany and named most likely after the dog fighting qualities to make boxing motions with its front paws, with his head and even with his nose. Boxers are the truth athletes, with a square muzzle, very strong jaws and a powerful bite. Originally the dogs were used to hunt bears and wild boar.

The only thing you have to bee ready concerning Boxers for sale: wet slobbery drool and kisses. The longest tongue is special Boxer characteristic feature. The size can grow to 15 inches long or more.

Using her simple but refined style, Emily Burrowes represented in a masterly fashion a Boxer noble appearance, strength and agility.

Collies In A Highland Landscape by Wright Barker

Collies In A Highland Landscape by Wright Barker

Best friends are forever

Lassie

Amazing representation of two collies with a picturesque landscape is one of the artworks by Wright Barker. Highly intelligent, noble and sublime – that is the author vision of the breed. Indeed, Collies were highly praised in Stanley Coren’s “The Intelligence of Dogs” rating (four of the first sixteen ranks, with the Border Collie being the first).

The breed was developed in the United Kingdom. This is a type of herding dog with a very strong herding instinct. Used as guards for ships, Collies kept an instinct and special sense of guardianship that any Collies owner knows about.

The origin of “collie” may refer to a Scottish word “colley” (a mountain sheep of Scotland). Sometimes the name is believed to be related to dogs color (coll – “coal” or “black” – many collie types are black or black-and-white). But the most widespread patterns in many types are black-and-white or tricolour.

Collie puppies are excellent children’s companions, playful and gentle. Adult dogs are very devoted and protective. There is a story about a Collie traveled 2000 miles to find his family after getting lost. This breed has received the Ken-L-Ration Hero Dog (award to brave or heroic dogs) award 5 times. That’s why Collie has been portrayed in many books, films and TV shows as a protagonist. The most famous is Lassie, fictional Collie dog character.

The colors and settings of this Collie poster are as vivid as life.

Chihuahua Bella by Robert Mcclintock

Chihuahua Bella by Robert Mcclintock

Even the smallest dog can lift its leg on the tallest building.

Jim Hightower

This Chihuahua portrait is an artwork created by an American photographer and digital artist Robert McClintock from his famous series “Dogs That I Know”. Robert McClintock’s strong composition skills and talent in capturing of a dog’s nature allowed him to make such a wonderful image.

Chihuahua is the smallest breed of dog in the world! It was named most likely after the state of Chihuahua in Mexico. Some folks say that Mexican kings used to have Chihuahuas as hot-water bottles. Chihuahua owners call their pets “naughty little mexicans”. Typical colors range from solid black to solid white, spotted, black and a variety of other colors and patterns. The most sought for color is a very rare Blue Chihuahua.

Despite the tiny size these small dogs share the same spirit with their much bigger congeners. Usually graceful, devoted, lively, brave and very healthy, with big babyish eyes, Chihuahua are guarding their territory. They are easily provoked to attack, they can be jealous because of their focus on their master. It is not recommended to take Chihuahua puppies in families with small children because of their temperament.

Chihuahua is certainly a “star” dog. Many celebrities, for instance, Madonna, Mickey Rourke, Jennifer Lopez and Britney Spears own a dog of this breed. In 2008 Walt Disney Pictures made all Chihuahua lovers happy by releasing a comedy called Beverly Hills Chihuahua.

Beagle by John Golden

Beagle by John Golden

You’re smarter than he is. Stay in the car. I don’t mind babysitting you, Penny, but please tell the beagle that’s an arm rest not a chew toy! Inspector Gadget

This amazing Beagle poster is a part of a series of dog breed artworks created by John Golden. The same technique is used for all of them: dogs are depicted on a color background with yummy bones on it.  John Golden has chosen blue as the background of the poster as no other color has means careless merriment in its psychological description. And there is no other word to describe beagles but “merry”. Beagles enjoy company, love kids and family. Your may recognize them by typical colors: white tail tip and muzzle, spots of black, white and brown over the body.

The breed has long and notable history. It originates from Ancient Greece. The name most likely comes from the French “begueule” (meaning “open throat”). Beagles have amazing vocal chords, that’s why they are called sometimes “singing beagles”. In fact, Beagle bark will be heard by all your neighbors, so take it in to account before getting the dog home. Beagle is a true hunter. There are millions receptors in Beagle nose which let him have a keen sense of smell. Besides, long ears help Beagles to catch the scent keeping them close to the nose.

Beagles have been depicted in popular culture since Elizabethan. The ship of Charles Darwin made his voyage was named Beagle after the breed. One of the most noted cartoon characters – Snoopy of the comic strip Peanuts – was a beagle. Beagles have lived in the White House during Lyndon B Johnson’s time in office. In June 2006 a Beagle was hailed a hero as a man’s service dog when she bit his cell phone to call 911 after he collapsed in a seizure. They appeared some films (Underdog, Cats and Dogs and Shiloh) in starring roles.

It’s not difficult to find a Beagle puppy for sale, because it’s one of the most popular breed in many countries. People say that Beagle is your personal three-colored medicine for the blues. And indeed it is.

Rottweiler or Rottweil Metzgerhund (Butchers Dog)

Rottweiler Art Poster by Ken Bailey

The humor and fantasy, so characteristic of Ken Bailey’s creativity, are represented in this vintage rottweiler picture. This is an any dog’s dream come true: to become a full member of a family and to have some nice snacks at the disposal. Rottweiler is a trusty friend and could certainly nurse your child after proper training. The main thing is not to be in a hurry while having an immediate urge to buy a puppy after seeing  the ad – «rottweiler puppies for sale». Read carefully a dog pedigree. This breed is very strong and has powerful jaws. There are many incidents involving rottweiler aggression to owners or members of their families. But this could only happen if the dog had had flawed ancestry, had not been socialized well or had not received proper training. Otherwise rottweiler is a dear family pet and a defender at the same time.

Ken Bailey has definitely caught the character of this breed, which perfectly gives in to training. The dog easily masters even some of the circus tricks. Rottweilers are service dogs so they are well trainable although all family members should certainly take part in the process, as otherwise the dog would choose the master and assault other family members. Distinctive author style with an extreme attention to detail, special vintage coloring both of the background and the foreground of the picture would certainly appeal both to animal lovers and to modern art connoisseurs.
